"Karin Catt"

"Being a Photographer is like having an addiction!" Karin Catt is stuck in traffic. It's 1pm on a Wednesday in Los Angeles, she hasn't slept more than three hours in two days and she's living on chocolate and coffee. She's just found out she has to fly to london on Monday and she still has six shoots to do before she can pack. Being a snapper of the star's ain't easy!
After almost a decade of photographing Hollywood actors, rocker singers, film directors and world leaders, Australian-born Catt peppers her conversations with names like Elton, Delta, Fifty (as in Cent) Russell (as in Crowe) and Marshall ( as in Mathers, better known as Eminem). She has shot for some of the world's leading magazines including Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire and Rolling Stone. Catt is an unapologetic workaholic. Catt is only the second Australian woman to be granted a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. Curator Simon Elliot says the selection is like no other the gallery has seen, "we think Karin will go down in history as one of the greastest photographers of our time." Catt shoots her subjects all with a directness that brings out their personality and sense of homour. I admire her because her passion for what she does is obvious and being an Australian woman, she is a great inspiration to me. All her subject's are vey diverse, I'm intrigued by the way she can relate to every subject and photograph them in an interesting way.
Catt says her life motto is "never give up". She doesn't believe in the word 'can't'. "You only live once and you have to do and experience as much as possible. I'd hate to get to 80 and think I should have done more. i just want a really interesting life. That's something that everyone should aim for..."
